Where Is Tire Grip Monitoring Amid the Mobility Transition?

Last week’s IAA Mobility 2025 once again transformed Munich into a global stage for the future of transport. The event reflects a broad vision of mobility, encompassing electric vehicles, sustainable materials, public transport, cycling, and digital platforms.

This year’s theme, “It’s All About Mobility,” made clear that the automotive industry is no longer all about horsepower and body design. Electrification was front and center; the conversation extended well beyond product launches.  Inside the halls, the spotlight was equally on autonomy, connectivity, and the software-defined car, with vehicles increasingly presented as digital platforms that blend hardware, AI, and immersive user experiences.

This integrated concept requires an increased level of partnership and knowledge exchange between suppliers of various technologies and products. POLYN Technology’s CEO, Aleksandr Timofeev, made that point in the panel discussion “Deep Tech in Motion – Chips, Sensors & Systems for a Smarter World” moderated by Dr. Anat Lea Bonshtien from Mobilion Ventures.

POLYN’s VibroSense Tire Monitoring Solution drew attention from both tire manufacturers and mobility system integrators. VibroSense extracts insights about tire-road interaction directly from vibration data using POLYN’s unique Neuromorphic Analog Signal Processing (NASP) chip. Integrated into existing TPMS nodes, the system delivers real-time analytics such as peak friction coefficient estimation, rolling resistance, overload alerts, and tire wear — all without altering existing vehicle hardware. For ADAS and autonomous systems, this real-time grip data represents a missing link, enhancing both safety and energy efficiency. At IAA, POLYN positioned VibroSense not only as a smart tire technology, but as a foundation for safer, more efficient driving in the EV and autonomous era.

We had numerous meaningful conversations with teams responsible for innovation and software development at vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, and ADAS system vendors. We will be meeting more with those teams in the upcoming months.

Visitors to POLYN’s booth acknowledged the blind spots in currently available solutions for grip estimation and showed a genuine interest in VibroSense and testing it on their own equipment. The trend toward more sophisticated autonomous mobility leads to the need for direct grip estimation with high accuracy.

At its heart, IAA Mobility 2025 was about readiness. Many of the showcased technologies are moving from concept to market launches, raising questions about affordability, infrastructure readiness, and consumer acceptance. For Germany and Europe, the event is a barometer of competitiveness in a rapidly shifting landscape dominated by Asian players. For the global industry, it is a reminder that mobility is now about interconnected systems, sustainable production, and user-centered design.
