VibroSense TMS

Ultra-Low Power Neuromorphic Front-End Chip for Tire Monitoring

VibroSense Tire Monitoring Solution is a unique ultra-low-power chip that enables Smart Tires. Integrated with a standard TPMS, it detects changes in tire-road friction and enables alerts to be sent to the vehicle’s various control systems, enhancing driving safety.

The missing element in vehicle safety today is real-time road surface awareness.

Next Generation Tire Pressure Monitoring System with VibroSense chip enables continuous road and tire condition monitoring in real time with high accuracy

Current vehicle control systems lack in-tire sensors to measure tire-road friction. Indirect friction estimations are inaccurate, slow, and expensive. A standard TPMS accelerometer could do the job, but it generates high-frequency signals that create vast amounts of data that must be transmitted to the car.

VibroSense detects and communicates PFC (peak friction coefficient) changes in real time, drastically reducing wireless communication with the vehicle. Significant data volume reduction saves the TPMS power budget, enabling designs based on standard batteries or energy harvesting.

With VibroSense, a vehicle is much safer. Tire-road friction monitoring is performed locally in the tire in real time, and the alerts reach vehicle control systems instantly. VibroSense TMS saves an additional meter of stopping distance from the time the grip change is noticed until the brake is applied. This assists the driver and enhances the vehicle’s stability and safety, particularly in challenging autonomous driving.

POLYN’s accurately labeled dataset includes various types of tires, vehicles, and road surfaces, covering PFC measurements ranging from 0 to 1 with step 0.1.

NASP VibroSense makes AI computations using only a hundred microwatts of power and a few microseconds of latency. It's ideal for real-time applications. There is no need for cloud processing. This ensures instant response and high reliability

Feature Description
Tire-road friction monitoring in real time
Various surface conditions impact tire-road friction and grip. PFC monitoring helps to reduce the stopping distance
Tire tread wear
Evaluate the tire tread condition and detect wear patterns that may affect performance and safety
Loose wheel nut detection
One loose lug nut adds extra pressure on the others and the uneven pressure distribution will make the wheel shake while driving
Wheel imbalance detection
Any signs of imbalance including partial that may only manifest within a narrow speed range

VibroSense TMS was successfully tested at the IDIADA proving ground

This IDIADA facility testing was the first in a series to be conducted with different tire manufacturers. POLYN is poised to demonstrate the value of its solution across the entire tire industry.

“While in principle, measuring tire-road friction is not too difficult, the challenge is to do it on a practical system that costs just a dollar or two, consumes tiny amounts of energy, and needs only limited data bandwidth. None of the top tire makers could achieve that, but POLYN has.”
