AI Had Starring Role at IFA 2024
IFA 2024, held in Berlin this month, showcased a range of innovative technologies, with a significant emphasis on AI-driven solutions. This year’s event marked the trade show’s 100th anniversary. IFA was first held in December 1924 as the “Great German Radio Exhibition.” The first sound recording technologies, gramophones, television sets, color television, video, and semiconductor technologies, followed this. Since then, IFA has kept pace with the best in the consumer electronics industry.
This year, the spotlight was on AI’s integration across various sectors, from smart home devices to mobile technology and consumer electronics, even in ovens, washing machines, and refrigerators.
A significant trend was the focus on personalized AI experiences. Samsung led the charge with its “AI for All” vision, introducing products such as the Bespoke AI home appliances and SmartThings platform. These solutions use AI to enhance connectivity and sustainability, from optimizing energy usage to offering health monitoring through devices like the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch. The AI-enabled Bespoke Family Hub refrigerator, with image recognition and recipe suggestions, and the Ballie AI home companion attracted much attention.
LG demonstrated Affectionate Intelligence, an AI-powered smart home hub connecting various devices. LG and other major TV vendors highlighted the changing role of TV screens as home decoration elements. The screens looked like paintings with modern slim designs, a mate effect, real-life picture quality, and different frame sizes.
POLYN discussed its voice recognition offering with several TV makers. The first TV remote controls were exhibited at IFA in the late 1950s. Now the “where’s my remote” question can finally be solved using POLYN’s Smart Voice Control cloudless and wireless AI solution. The TV makers showed great interest.
Samsung’s transparent MICRO LED displays, powered by AI for improved visual clarity, wowed in the home entertainment space.
In mobile technology, AI was deeply integrated into Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem, offering more intelligent and seamless experiences between devices, including health tracking, smart assistance, and advanced language translation features.
The IFA Next section, the startup innovation hub, further demonstrated how AI transforms various industries. Startups presented innovations in AI-driven digital health, smart home tech, and AI-powered entertainment gadgets. We particularly liked robotics experts Probot and Neura, who offer multi-sensing autonomous vehicle platforms and more. For robotics, POLYN offers sensor data AI pre-processing with sensor fusion that enhances command and movement detection, navigation, body stabilization, and fall detection.
Overall, IFA 2024 showcased AI’s growing role in creating more intuitive, connected, and sustainable living environments. Exhibitors pushed the boundaries of what AI can achieve in everyday life. The trade show made it clear that AI is becoming a core part of the consumer tech landscape, shaping the future of how we interact with technology.
